At the heart of what we do is compassion for those suffering from addictions, and a duty of care to our clients and their families who come to us for help. The road to recovery is not easy, but we know that with a comprehensive therapy programme and a qualified and experienced team of doctors, therapists and nurses in beautiful surroundings we can transform lives.

Castle Health offers effective and proven treatment for drug and alcohol addiction, as well as behavioural addictions such as gambling and gaming addictions. We understand that addiction is a complicated illness that needs a personalised approach, delivered by a highly qualified team of professionals.

Our inpatient and outpatient clinics use an integrated approach to ensure a seamless transition between the pre-admission stage, admission into residential rehab or outpatient care, and continuing care.

Our Treatment Model

The addiction treatment approach at Castle Health is an abstinence-based model, based on the 12-step philosophy incorporating Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and other evidence-based therapies.

Our clinical team conduct rigorous biopsychosocial assessments, using the latest assessment tools and practises, to determine what psychological, biological, and social factors could be contributing to the addiction. This enables us to create an integrated, personalised treatment plan for each person’s individual needs.

We focus on detoxification from alcohol and drugs, accompanied by an intensive therapy programme to treat underlying mental health problems such as anxiety, stress, depression, trauma, which are often the contributing factors in addiction.

Our Treatment Centres

Castle Health offers both inpatient and outpatient programmes. Depending on the client, one may be more suitable for their situation than the other. It is recommended to discuss options with our admissions staff to see which one is more suitable.

Residential Rehabilitation

Primary residential treatment is available at two of our locations – Castle Craig Hospital in Scotland and Smarmore Castle in Ireland. Our residential centres offer a 4-6 week intensive treatment programme which includes inpatient detox with 24/7 medical support, therapy, and aftercare.

Extended Care Residential Rehab

We also have an extended care residential treatment centre, Castle Craig Gardens, which is located adjacent to our Scottish Hospital. The Gardens are open to anyone who has completed primary addiction treatment.

Outpatient Rehabilitation

We have multiple outpatient and day treatment centres including CATCH Recovery in London, Stockholms Beroendeklinik in Sweden and three in the Netherlands. The length of an outpatient treatment course varies depending on the client’s needs. Limited outpatient services are also available at our residential rehabs for continuing care clients.

At Castle Health, we treat all types of substance and behavioural addictions. We accept clients with multiple addictions and other psychological disorders as well.

Dual-Diagnosis Treatment

In addition to addiction-specific treatment, we provide specialised therapy for those with dual-diagnosis and other accompanying issues such as trauma (PTSD), eating disorders, and chronic pain.

Our Services and Facilities

Each of our treatment centres offer a complete addiction treatment programme, which includes detoxification (either on site or by referral), psychotherapy, and continuing care. Specialised and complementary therapies, however, may vary from centre to centre.

Detox

Both our Scottish and Irish centres have on-site medically supervised detox. Medically supervised detox is also available at Recovery Gardens, which shares facilities with the Scottish Hospital.

At our outpatient locations, clients can choose between outpatient detox or ask to be referred to a sister location for inpatient treatment.

The detox process varies from person to person and is always based on the advice of our clinical teams.

Psychotherapy

Therapy is one of the most important parts of addiction rehabilitation so a lot of emphasis is placed on it during the treatment period. Our centres offer both one-on-one and group therapy sessions. Each one is equally as important for recovery.

Individual therapy allows one to discuss things in complete privacy and focus on topics specific to the client. One-on-one sessions are centred around discovering the root cause of the person’s addiction and are led by one of our focal therapists.

Group therapy sessions can be even more beneficial during treatment, as it allows clients to learn from others as well as share their experience. Over time, group members become each other’s source of motivation and support. Both general and specialised group therapy sessions are offered at our centres, each kept to 12 people or less.

Castle Health implements the 12-step approach as well as both CBT and DBT-based therapy. This is considered to be one of the best methods of addressing addiction and continues to be proven as successful.

Specialty Therapy

Our centres are well-known for having a wide range specialised group therapies. Many of them are focused on issues common among people in addiction treatment. These vary from centre to center but offered based on clients’ needs. Examples include:

  • Trauma Therapy (PTSD)
  • Eating Disorders
  • Women-Only Group
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Adult Children of Alcoholics
  • Coping Skills
  • Relationship Therapy
  • Grief and Bereavement
  • Relapse Prevention Group

Family Support

Both our residential rehabs and outpatient centres offer family support services for our patient’s loved ones. This includes therapy sessions and 12-step-style group self-help meetings. We encourage families to be involved in the treatment process, if the patient is comfortable with this, as it is helpful for long-term recovery.

Complementary Therapy

Through years of experience, Castle Health has found that complementary and experiential (hands-on) therapies have been extremely beneficial to our clients. They are different from traditional talking therapy and allow a person to explore their thoughts and emotions via alternative activities.

Complementary therapies are integrated into a client’s personalised treatment plan but their availability depends on location. Some of our therapies include:

  • Aquatherapy
  • Equine (Horse) Facilitated Psychotherapy
  • Art Group
  • Drumming
  • Creative Writing
  • Mindfulness Meditation
  • Aromatherapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Massage

Fitness and Recreation

Castle Health understands the value of a healthy lifestyle. While exercise is a means to unwind, it’s also useful in recovery, especially if a person is in poor physical condition as a result of their addiction.

Our residential rehabs feature a number of fitness facilities, including a gym and outdoor sports areas. Our Scottish rehab is also equipped with a swimming pool, sauna, and steam room. In addition, our residents are invited to participate in various recreational activities such as yoga.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment (HBOT)

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is proven to be useful during recovery by accelerating the detox process. The treatment procedure involves sitting in a pressurised chamber while inhaling pure oxygen.

It is known to help clear toxins during detoxification, ease withdrawal symptoms, and regenerate damaged tissues, organs, and brain cells. HBOT is highly recommended for anyone undergoing opiate detox or suffering from liver damage.

Our primary HBOT location is adjacent to our Scottish rehab. A secondary unit is set to open at our Irish rehab in the near future.

Aftercare

Treatment doesn’t end with rehab. For a lasting recovery, continuing care is crucial, especially in the first few months after discharge. Because of this, Castle Health also places a lot of emphasis on aftercare.

Before leaving, every client receives a customised continuing care plan, which includes recommendations and/or referrals to 12-step meetings, therapists, and other resources. This includes regular aftercare group sessions held at our centres.

Clients also have the option to sign up for online therapy, which takes place via video conferencing.
